How to Prepare for Your Headshot

So now you’ve made the decision to have Professional Headshots done. You have committed with your time and money, so I need you to do your part.
I will do my part to get the best possible result with posing, expression coaching, amazing lighting, and high end retouching of your shots.
In order to get the best possible results I need you to do a few things, nothing difficult and mostly common sense.
Please read the guide below and contact me if you have any questions.

Clothing
Avoid loud prints and frills, and choose solid colours.
The fit of your clothing is important; neither baggy nor excessively tight clothing won’t work well in photos.
Bring four or more of your best fitting professional dresses and tops, as well as a few jackets that go with these tops or dresses if desired, leather jacket often work quite well.
If possible bring a top or dress that matches your eye colour.
You might also want to bring clothing for a more casual look i.e. Facebook image.

Hair
Take time to style your hair nicely.
Don’t get a hair cut within three days of your headshot session.
Bring what you use to style your hair and manage flyaways.

Makeup
For your makeup, use a light hand. Your makeup should be natural and blended well.
Lipstick in your natural lip colour or one shade darker; glossy not matte. No visible lip liner.
Eyes defined but natural with soft blended eyeliner. Hard edged liquid eyeliner doesn’t show well. Neutral coloured eye shadow is usually best. No false eyelashes unless you are used to wearing and applying them. Wear mascara and curl your lashes.
Please bring makeup for retouching.

Jewellery
With headshots the focus is on your face. Jewellery can be distracting so I prefer you to remove all jewellery.  If you want to wear earrings, studs look best.
If you do want jewellery in the shot please bring some options.

Glasses
If you wear glasses primary then these should be in your shots. If you wear a combination of contacts and glasses, bring your glasses to try in some shots.
If you have several pairs of glasses, bring them so we can try different ones.
